Auto Service to Community Service
Local arts organization, Big Car has taken the initiative to turn an abandoned tire center near Lafayette Square Mall into a community center for arts, culture and urban gardening. This building still appropriately titled Service Center will have a variety of things to offer people in that area. From a food perspective I think this is a perfect project for the area because it will create a garden landscape for all that drive by. I think having a beautiful garden in such a neglected area is bound to stir curiosity and discussion. My hope is that this curiosity and discussion leads to more support for the project but also to bring about a focus on food and how projects like this can create community – education and an overall better quality of life.
